Omar turned from a tropical storm into a category three hurricane in less than 12 hours, and is now getting closer to the island of St. Maarten / St. Martin. Part of the DineSXM team (John & Norbert) is staying at the office tonight to weather out the storm.

Thanks for the pictures! I am listening to Laser 101 at the moment and feeling grateful we are not having a flood through the house as so many are.
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I were staying at Coral Shores on Pelican Key when Omar struck our villa which is located 15 to 30 feet away from the water. Around 3:15 three waves came over the house and one crashed through the hurricane shutters blowing the sliders out and filling the house with water, sand, and broken chards of glass. Our only recourse was to stay in our only haven which was the shower stall and wait it out. The shrill of the wind was unbelievable. A great couple from Pelican Cove let us stay in the unoccupied villa at Coral Shores...we were very lucky get out alive.
ReplyDeleteScary story, glad to hear you got through unharmed!
ReplyDeleteMy apartment is also about 30ft from the water, in Simpson Bay. During the hurricane we lost 3 out of 4 trees near the water line in front of the house. Big mess to clean it all up afterwards, but I ended up with a gorgeous view of the bay: all the way from Pelican to Beacon Hill.
